- Steel sheet material new processes exploration to satisfy weight reduction in automotive industry.

The strong pressure of environnemental regulations pushes automotive industry to reduce CO² emissions, and consequently the weight of vehicles.
In this respect, 1 kg weight saving on the vehicle leads to a reduction of 0.1 g CO² emission per km.
We propose an exploration of steel industry and part manufacturing new processes, coupled with virtual simulation of system behaviour in vehicle crash loading.
The objective is to use the just necessary amount of material, at the right location of the product in aim to reduce weight of the vehicle."
- The Material Ageing Institute : for a better knowledge of materials
Jan van der Lee, directeur du Materials Ageing Institute.
The Materials Ageing Institute is a utility-oriented research center founded in 2008 and financed by Electricité de France (EDF), the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the Kansai Electric Power Company (KEPCO) and the US Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). The key purpose of the MAI is to direct efforts in research and development towards ageing of materials used in electrical power facilities. This initiative by the worldís biggest nuclear operators is motivated by the conviction that sharing research will significantly contribute to our understanding of the ageing processes in various materials employed in both nuclear and non-nuclear power plants. The combination of operational know-how, experimental knowledge, and computer modelling of coupled processes can then be used to anticipate ageing and henceforth increase the durability of materials, components and structures.
